Munching with the Mayor

Tiger Smarts club to have breakfast with the mayor in this week.

FINE DINING: Eligible students participated in the Mayor’s Character Breakfast Thursday morning. “It was good. There were a lot of award recipients. The Keynote speaker was fantastic. She was an 11 year old girl who created a website. It was a very inspiring message that we as adults could learn from as well,” student resource officer Darnell Sims said.

On January 24th, our mayor, Bill Baird, will be hosting a character breakfast. Smarts clubs of all three high schools, Tiger Pride advisory members, and receivers of character trait awards will be attending, though anyone can purchase a ticket or table.

“Lee’s Summit Cares gives awards to character winners and there is also a business award,” Tiger Smart advisor Diana Lehman said.

There will also be a special guest to deliver a speech about character and citizenship. This will be the 15th annual character breakfast held by the mayor.

“I enjoy it because I can hear about others doing great and kind things. It is cool that Lee’s Summit is highlighting the good,” Lehman said.

Those who received the character trait awards will be sharing their stories as to what caused them to earn the awards.

“ I think that it is a great idea for kids that are helping the community,” Tiger Smarts member Jalyn Close said.

The character trait breakfast is a unique opportunity to hear how those around are changing the community for the better.
